The reconstruction of the Philharmonie – Berlin’s Philharmonic Hall – was the aim behind the founding of our association in 1949, after the former Philharmonie had been destroyed in the Second World War.
This aim has long since been achieved. The Philharmonie and Kammermusiksaal (Chamber Music Hall) have long been built again, designed by the ingenious Hans Scharoun, and now stand together in glorious harmony on the Kemperplatz.
Nonetheless the ‘Friends’ have quickly established new goals. Until today, they remain active in many respects, purchasing expensive instruments for the orchestra, funding the extensive refurbishment of the Philharmonie, for instance, in acoustic development or in the design of the foyers, and helping to document the history of the orchestra.
One chief priority is working with young people. Thus, the ‘Friends’ support Sir Simon Rattle’s educational project and founded the JUNGER FREUNDESKREIS (Circle of Young Friends).
Our members may attend three special events each year, consisting of lectures, discussion forums and, of course, performances. Here you will get to know members of the Philharmonic Orchestra on a private and individual basis.
Treat yourself to such delights, become a member of the FREUNDE DER BERLINER PHILHARMONIKER E. V. (The Friends of the Berlin Philharmonic) and engage in supporting the activities of this world-class orchestra.
